Eddie Would Go?
Today, Saturday, February 27th 2010, ALL of Hawaii was under a tsunami warning. An 8.8 earthquake unfortunately hit Chile and provided a reminiscent scare of a similar situation 50 years ago that did much damage to the then new state of Hawaii. Here is initial evaluation of today’s circumstances…
A TSUNAMI HAS BEEN GENERATED THAT COULD CAUSE DAMAGE ALONG
COASTLINES OF ALL ISLANDS IN THE STATE OF HAWAII. URGENT ACTION
SHOULD BE TAKEN TO PROTECT LIVES AND PROPERTY.
A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF LONG OCEAN WAVES. EACH INDIVIDUAL WAVE
CREST CAN LAST 5 TO 15 MINUTES OR MORE AND EXTENSIVELY FLOOD
COASTAL AREAS. THE DANGER CAN CONTINUE FOR MANY HOURS AFTER THE
INITIAL WAVE AS SUBSEQUENT WAVES ARRIVE. TSUNAMI WAVE HEIGHTS
CANNOT BE PREDICTED AND THE FIRST WAVE MAY NOT BE THE LARGEST.
TSUNAMI WAVES EFFICIENTLY WRAP AROUND ISLANDS. ALL SHORES ARE AT
RISK NO MATTER WHICH DIRECTION THEY FACE. THE TROUGH OF A TSUNAMI
WAVE MAY TEMPORARILY EXPOSE THE SEAFLOOR BUT THE AREA WILL
QUICKLY FLOOD AGAIN. EXTREMELY STRONG AND UNUSUAL NEARSHORE
CURRENTS CAN ACCOMPANY A TSUNAMI. DEBRIS PICKED UP AND CARRIED
BY A TSUNAMI AMPLIFIES ITS DESTRUCTIVE POWER. SIMULTANEOUS HIGH
TIDES OR HIGH SURF CAN SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE THE TSUNAMI HAZARD.
THE ESTIMATED ARRIVAL TIME IN HAWAII OF THE FIRST TSUNAMI WAVE IS
1119 AM HST SAT 27 FEB 2010
…as we NOW know, a tsunami DID “arrive” and thank goodness there was no major or much minimal damage anywhere. Of course I’m upset it was a waste of time, sirens woke me up earlier than I wanted to be up, Waikele was closed most of the day, stayed indoors for hours watching the shoreline move back and forth. BUT, even with that, and with people complaining about all the extra food, water, and gas, we have to be happy nothing happened.
And of everyone that should be happy, THIS GUY should be HAPPIEST!

I’m going to assume, for the sake of this blog, that this guy’s name is EDDIE. Because Eddie WENT! lol. Everyone who was watching the news saw this guy, the newscasters and radio guys kept talking about him, he was the lone surfer with the waves all to himself. Nevermind the tsunami warning, the sirens, the helicopters flying overhead, the closed beaches, this guy was not to be stopped. It was his moment to shine, and SHINE HE DID! Now, there is even a facebook fan page on his behalf. The guy in Hawaii surfing in a middle of the Tsunami. I suggest you become a fan
With that being said, Hawaii is safe, and so is “Eddie”. But I still think everyone should stock up on new t-shirts…. lol.
